A FoASSSI talk as part of the 'Capturing Old Shoreham’ exhibition at the Marlipins Museum which runs from 14 May to 25 July.
The exhibition aims to create a 21st century portrait of Old Shoreham. It includes a Soundscape of the area, a new Village Map that builds on the current virtual Heritage trail, a Nature Map of habitats and green spaces and a new stitched Community Banner.
We will present the past, present and future of the protected Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Join us for a Solstice celebration walk to Cuckoo Corner and bring a light picnic. We will see who shows up along the way, sharing the story of the Adur SSSI as we go. At Cuckoo Corner we will stop for a picnic and a joyful celebration of the energy of this special day - also known as Litha.

We will be joined again by Richard Allan of SDOS for a walk around the SSSI to learn about the biodiversity of its habitats. Every walk brings different wildlife opportunities, so come along even if you have joined us before.

Do you love paddling on the Adur river? Did you know it is a protected habitat? Learn about its wildlife and how you can help its recovery.
Adur River Paddle Safari
Join us together with Moxie Unleashed to learn more about the the Adur River around Shoreham which is a very special and protected site - known as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. This intertidal stretch of river and site of mud flats and salt marsh is a haven for many birds providing rich nutrition and also roosting places. Regular inhabitants such as Oyster Catchers and and Little Egrets are joined by migratory and over-wintering birds such as Redshank and Lapwings and many more. It is also a much loved paddling destination with its beautiful scenery and easy accessibility from Shoreham By Sea.
The river is a living system that supports a variety of habitats and species but it is struggling with multiple challenges and threats. We will also share a little bit about the work of the Adur River Recovery Project that is happening to support the restoration of the river and how you can get involved with Friends of Adur SSSI to help.
This two hour safari will begin with a short introduction about the unique characteristics of this SSSI. Then we will take to the river. Along the journey we will share guidance and knowledge to help you paddle with care and reduce your impact on this fragile habitat.
