— Local volunteer, Friends of Adur SSSI

Friends of Adur SSSI is a community-led group dedicated to caring for one of West Sussex’s most important natural places - the Adur Estuary Site of Special Scientific Interest.
This rare coastal environment supports a wide variety of wildlife and offers a precious connection to nature just minutes from Shoreham town.
We believe that when people understand the estuary and feel connected to it, they are far more likely to protect it.
Why Your Donation Matters
Support Education & Awareness
Your donation helps us raise understanding of why the estuary is protected and how everyday actions can make a real difference. From dog walkers to paddlers and birdwatchers, everyone who enjoys the river has a part to play in caring for it.
Strengthening Community Engagement
Donations allow us to reach more local people and visitors through walks, talks and events that encourage a shared sense of responsibility for this special place.
Working in Partnership for Wildlife
Your support helps us work alongside councils, Natural England, Ouse and Adur Rivers Trust, Adur River Recovery Project, the RSPB and other partners on practical projects, from better signage to reducing disturbance, all with wildlife in mind.
Protecting Fragile Habitats
The estuary’s saltmarshes and mudflats are easily damaged by disturbance and erosion. Donations help fund gentle, practical outreach and responsible-use campaigns that protect these sensitive habitats.
Every gift helps ensure the Adur Estuary remains a welcoming refuge for birds and wildlife, now and for future generations. By donating, you’re supporting nature, community and the long-term health of this remarkable place.
